Ghanaian rapper, Opanka has expressed sadness about his inability to win awards in the music industry especially the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards {VGMA}.
Whe asked why he wasn’t nominated in the Best Rapper category at the just ended VGMA, Opanka was quick to say he doesn’t necessarily needs awards to be an A-list artiste. He added that his relish is in helping people with his music and not win awards.
Opanka was speaking in an interview on eTV Ghana’s Late Nite Celebrity Show with Foster Romanus.
“If I’m able to inspire people, win souls and get genuine love from fans, that is my award”, he said.
According to Opanka, it doesn’t matter who the Best Rapper award is presented to, he believes in his craft as a rapper and does not needs anyone’s validation to be affirm that.
“I don’t need someone’s validation to know that I’m the best and I feel like no human being needs to wait for anyone’s validation. It is just an institution that they have set up so if they decide to pick some names and I’m not included… I respect that but I believe in my craft and people give me genuine feedback so if I’m able to inspire people, that is more than an award to me because I’ve achieved my purpose”, Opanka told the host.
Opanka is a name that resonates well with the rap game in Ghana. He is a typical freestyle artiste who can spin words together to elicit applause from the crowd.
