At just 9 years old, Snillocnia Nana Adwoa Ashong Mensah, known by her artistic name Snaam De Poet, has already etched her name in history as one of Ghana’s most promising young voices.
Her debut album, Day Dream, released before she even turned nine, is not just an album but a project that positions Snaam as the youngest female artist in Ghana’s history to release a full studio project. With lyrics that touch on themes of love, hope, and the complexities of the world around her, Day Dream is a breathtaking collection of poems, spoken word, and music, produced by the talented Mel Blakk.
Born on September 28, 2015, Snaam’s journey into the world of poetry and music began at an extraordinarily young age. While many children her age are learning their first words, Snaam was already expressing herself through captivating verses and rhymes. Her parents and community quickly recognized that she was no ordinary child. With an innate gift for storytelling, Snaam’s words flowed naturally, filled with depth, imagination, and insight—qualities often absent from those many years older than her. By the time she was 8, her talent was undeniable, and she set out to share her gift with the world, culminating in the release of Day Dream.
The 10 piece piece is a beautiful exploration of the world through the eyes of a child who is both innocent and wise. The album, with its thoughtful compositions and emotive delivery, is an invitation to dream to envision a world where anything is possible. Snaam’s voice is calm and confident, yet it carries a weight of maturity that transcends her age. Each track on the album speaks to different aspects of life, from the innocence of childhood to the pressing concerns of the world today.
The album’s tracklist is a journey of both personal reflection and societal observation which have Day Dream, Girl Child, Coast To Coast, Nature, Cold So Cold,
Realm Of Farewell, Climate Change, Family, Xmas and Last Good Bye.
What truly sets Snaam apart from other young artists is not just her prodigious talent, but her ability to speak to important issues with the insight of someone much older. Tracks like Climate Change and Girl Child show that Snaam is not just a poet and artist; she’s also a voice for change, using her platform to raise awareness about the pressing concerns of our time.
Her work also challenges the stereotypes that often surround young artists. Rather than producing material that focuses on trivial or surface level themes, Snaam addresses topics that matter those that speak to the heart of the human experience. Through Day Dream, she encourages us to reflect, to act, and to imagine a better future.
Though just 9 years old, Snaam’s potential seems boundless. Her debut album is only the beginning of what promises to be a long and impactful career. As she continues to grow, both as an artist and as a person, it’s clear that her voice will only become stronger, her words more powerful, and her reach broader.
