Ghanaian poet and playwright, Chief Moomen is calling on authorities to shut down the National for renovation works to be done on the facility.
Speaking to Ghana Weekend Tv, Chief Moomen decried the embarrassing state of the National Theatre after several attempts by management to renovate it by setting up of a GoFundMe account to appeal fpr support for repair works.
“The National Theatre is a symbol for the nation, so if tourists come and the venue is nothing to write home about, it affects the image of the nation. The whole building must be shut down and renovated to world-class standards”, Chief Moomen said in the interview.
The well known poet also called on government to look for sustainable ways of generating funds to completely renovate it facility to a modern one.
The National Theatre was built in an MoU by Ghana and the Peoples Republic of China and commissioned in 1992 to help the then growing creative industry in the country.
